Healing School

Faith & Healing School

We first need to establish some foundation pieces.

1. There is no condemnation:

Rom 8:1  There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.

Rom 8:1  With the arrival of Jesus, the Messiah, that fateful dilemma is resolved. Those who enter into Christ's being-here-for-us no longer have to live under a continuous, low-lying black cloud.

2. The Father has no favorites:

Act 10:34  Then Peter opened his mouth and said, Truly I
see that God is no respecter of persons;

Act 10:34  Peter fairly exploded with his good news: "It's God's own truth, nothing could be plainer: God plays no favorites! 3. Man was not created a physical being.

1Th 5:23  And may the God of peace Himself sanctify you, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blamelessly at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

1Th 5:23  May God himself, the God who makes everything holy and whole, make you holy and whole, put you together--spirit, soul, and body--and keep you fit for the coming of our Master, Jesus Christ.

4. We are redeemed from the curse of the law:

Gal 3:13  Christ redeemed us from the curse of the Law, being made a curse for us (for it is written, "Cursed is everyone having been hanged on a tree");
Gal 3:14  so that the blessing of Abraham might be to the nations in Jesus Christ, and that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

Gal 3:13  Christ redeemed us from that self-defeating, cursed life by absorbing it completely into himself. Do you remember the Scripture that says, "Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree"? That is what happened when Jesus was nailed to the Cross: He became a curse, and at the same time dissolved the curse.
Gal 3:14  And now, because of that, the air is cleared and we can see that Abraham's blessing is present and available for non-Jews, too. We are all able to receive God's life, his Spirit, in and with us by believing--just the way Abraham received it. [MB]

5.  There are Two Kinds of Knowledge

A.  Sense Knowledge

All the knowledge in the natural realm such as Chemistry, Biology, Physics etc. comes to us through the Five Senses—Seeing, Tasting, Hearing, Smelling, and Feeling.

-All it can discover are things it can see, taste. Hear, smell, and feel.

  -But this knowledge is limited.

-It cannot find the human spirit.

  -It cannot find God.

-It cannot discover the origin of Matter, of Life, of Force, or of Creation.

B. Revelation Knowledge

There is another kind of knowledge that has come to us through the Revelation called the Bible.

-It brings us in contact with the Creator.

-It explains the “Why” of creation, the Reason for Man, the Nature of Man, and the ultimate Goal of Man.

The unhappy fact is that Sense Knowledge has gained supremacy in the Church.

-The Church is a spiritual organization, a spiritual body, to be governed through the spirit instead of the senses.

-You can see why Sense Knowledge, which cannot understand spiritual things, will deny miracles, answers to prayer, and the deity of Jesus.

The chief quest of sense knowledge has been for “reality.”

  -Man’s spirit craves it!

-But reality cannot be found by the Senses.

Sense Knowledge has sent forth men called Philosophers, searching for Reality.

-It is a profound fact, worthy of every man’s consideration, that the man who knows Jesus Christ, who has received Eternal Life, NEVER TURNS TO PHILOSOPHY!

--If he is a philosopher, he gives it up because he has arrived at reality In Christ.

Truth and reality are one and the same.

-Therefore we know Jesus said, “I am the way, the reality (truth), and the life.”
So as we begin to seek out more Revelation Knowledge we must remember that wherever we land in our understanding there is NO condemnation period!

-Revelation will come to us on an individual basis through the Holy Spirit.

-Our sanctification and revelation is as unique to us as our fingerprints which, by the way, was all God’s doing in the first place.

Secondly, remember that God has no favorites.

-What he will do for one He will do for others.

Heb 4:12  For the Word of God is living and powerful and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing apart of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Adam was created a three-part being.

1. God is a Spirit-Being.

--Gen 1:26  And God said, Let Us make man in Our image, after Our likeness.

2. God breathed into man a soul.

--Gen 2:7  And Jehovah God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

3. God housed the Spirit and Soul in a Body.

Therefore we say that man is a spirit, who has a soul, that Lives in a body.

-The Spirit is the most noble (or highest) part of man.

-The Body is the least noble (or lowest) part of man.

--It operates through the five senses.

-The soul is best understood as the Mind, Will, and Emotions.

--This is where the decisions are made.

Our Flesh (Body) inter-relates with the natural world through the five senses.

-It has cravings, desires, and passions.

The Soul is the place that the decisions are made as to acting on those desires etc.

If the Spirit influences the Soul, the Body (Flesh) will respond with Godly decisions.

If the Body influences the Soul, the response will be ungodly decisions.

-The Soul will take on the Character of the one it is subject to.

It always turns out to be Two-against-One.

God’s Generosity –based on Obedience

Gen 2:16  And Jehovah God commanded the man, saying, You may freely eat of every tree in the garden,

The First Death—based on disobedience

Gen 2:17  but you shall not eat of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. For in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.

There are only three kinds of death spoken of in the Scriptures:

 1st –came Spiritual Death.

 2nd –comes Physical Death.

 3rd –comes the second Death

Man was driven from the Garden …

…and became a slave of sin and death.

Genesis 3: 24.  So He drove out the man; and He placed cherubim at the east of the Garden of Eden, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to guard the way to the tree of life.

The Fall of Man began with Adam

Carnal man is the man whose spirit (of God) is dead (separated).

--Therefore, he is unregenerated, sinful, and self-centered.

--The Thesaurus uses the following words for unregenerated:

--Unrealistic, unreality, unreasonable, unreceptive, unreformed, unregretful, unreformed, unrelenting, unreliable, unrelieved.

Two words open the Bible up to us…

 You “who were dead”…

Eph 2:1  And He has made you alive, who were once dead in trespasses and sins,
Eph 2:2  in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now works in the children of disobedience;
Eph 2:3  among whom we also had our way of life in times past, in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the thoughts, and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.
Eph 2:4  But God, who is rich in mercy, for His great love with which He loved us
Eph 2:5  (even when we were dead in sins) has made us alive together with Christ (by grace you are saved),
Eph 2:6  and has raised us up together and made us sit together in the heavenlies in Christ Jesus,
Eph 2:7  so that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.
Eph 2:8  For by grace you are saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God, [MKJV]

The Message Bible says

Eph 2:1  It wasn't so long ago that you were mired in that old stagnant life of sin.
Eph 2:2  You let the world, which doesn't know the first thing about living, tell you how to live. You filled your lungs with polluted unbelief, and then exhaled disobedience.
Eph 2:3  We all did it, all of us doing what we felt like doing, when we felt like doing it, all of us in the same boat. It's a wonder God didn't lose his temper and do away with the whole lot of us.
Eph 2:4  Instead, immense in mercy and with an incredible love,
Eph 2:5  he embraced us. He took our sin-dead lives and made us alive in Christ. He did all this on his own, with no help from us!
Eph 2:6  Then he picked us up and set us down in highest heaven in company with Jesus, our Messiah.
Eph 2:7  Now God has us where he wants us, with all the time in this world and the next to shower grace and kindness upon us in Christ Jesus.
Eph 2:8  Saving is all his idea, and all his work. All we do is trust him enough to let him do it. It's God's gift from start to finish!

Taking the Step to Be Born Again

Joh 3:6  That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
Joh 3:7  Do not marvel that I said to you, You must be born again.
Joh 3:8  The Spirit breathes where He desires, and you hear His voice, but you do not know from where He comes, and where He goes; so is everyone who is born of the Spirit.

Being Born Again means for the carnal man that his Spirit-man has been regenerated to it’s original purpose.

  -We know…

I John 3: 14.  We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love the brethren. He who does not love his brother abides in death.

--Not “we think”…
--Not “we hope so”…
--No, it’s not a theory either…

-Not because we belong to such and such a church group…
-But because we belong to “the brethren”.

II Corinthinans 5: 17.  Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

Spiritual death and physical death were not part of God’s creation.

-Physical death is an enemy of God, and an enemy of man.

-If it’s an enemy…it could not be a part of God’s original creation.

I Corinthians 15: 25.  For He must reign till He has put all enemies under His feet.
26. The last enemy that will be destroyed is death.

Spiritual death is put under foot now.

We are Redeemed from the Curse of the Law

Galations 3: 13.  Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, "Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree''),
14. That the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

a) He “has” redeemed us—past tense!

b) He is not going to…

c) It doesn’t say…”if it’s His will”…

d) Redeem us from what?
…the curse of the law

 The law either refers to:

a) The 10 Commandments or
b) The Pentateuch (1st 5 books of the Bible)

There is nothing about the curse in the 10 Commandments.

--Therefore we need to look at the 1st 5 books of the Bible.

The curse is 3-fold:

a) Spiritual Death
b) Poverty
c) Sickness

We have just now covered spiritual death.

We are also Redeemed from the Curse of Sickness

First let’s review one more time the key verses:

Galations 3: 13.  Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, "Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree''),
14. that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

Galations 3: 29.  And if you are Christ's, then you are Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.

Now we need to turn to Deuteronomy:

Deut 28: 15.  "But it shall come to pass, if you do not obey the voice of the Lord your God, to observe carefully all His commandments and His statutes which I command you today, that all these curses will come upon you and overtake you:

Deut 28: 27.  "The Lord will strike you with the boils of Egypt, with tumors, with the scab, and with the itch, from which you cannot be healed.
28.  "The Lord will strike you with madness and blindness and confusion of heart.
29.  "And you shall grope at noonday, as a blind man gropes in darkness; you shall not prosper in your ways; you shall be only oppressed and plundered continually, and no one shall save you.

Deut 28: 33.  "A nation whom you have not known shall eat the fruit of your land and the produce of your labor, and you shall be only oppressed and crushed continually.
 34.  "So you shall be driven mad because of the sight which your eyes see.
 35.  "The Lord will strike you in the knees and on the legs with severe boils which cannot be healed, and from the sole of your foot to the top of your head.

Deut 28: 58.  "If you do not carefully observe all the words of this law that are written in this book, that you may fear this glorious and awesome name, THE LORD YOUR GOD,
 59.  "then the Lord will bring upon you and your descendants extraordinary plagues great and prolonged plagues and serious and prolonged sicknesses.
 60.  "Moreover He will bring back on you all the diseases of Egypt, of which you were afraid, and they shall cling to you.
 61.  "Also every sickness and every plague, which is not written in the book of this law, will the Lord bring upon you until you are destroyed.

In verses 15-60 it is talking about diseases of Egypt.

-In verse 61 it covers all the diseases that will come to the earth over time.

Does God put Sickness and Disease on People?

-In verse 35 it says “will strike you”(NKJV), and “will smite you”(OKJV).

-The OT wasn’t written in English but in Hebrew.

--Dr. Robert Young, one of many Hebrew scholars, and author of Young’s Greek and Hebrew concordance, says that the verb “smite or strike” should have been in the “permissive tense” rather than the “causative tense”—but they did not have any permissive tense for these verbs.

--Dr. Young said that it should have been translated, “the lord would allow you to be smitten.”

--Another such example is Isaiah 45: :7  I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the Lord do all these things.

---It says that God “creates evil.”

---But if you read the rest of the Bible, you know that is not the case.

---If God created evil, it would make God a devil.

---God may “permit evil” but He doesn’t create evil.

---God cannot judge evil and be the author of it also.

--Another example again is found in I Samuel 16: 14  But the Spirit of the Lord departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the Lord troubled him.

---An evil spirit cannot come from the Lord.

---If evil spirits come from the Lord, we have no right to resist them.

---No, what only makes sense here is that The Lord “permitted an evil spirit” to trouble Saul.

--A final example for us might be when our child reaches toward a hot stove, we grab their hand (and maybe give it a little slap), telling them the danger of the hot stove.

---There is a difference between “commission” and “permission.”

---We go into another room to work when we hear a scream!

---The child disobeyed and touched the hot stove.

---The parent did not “commit” that, but they “permitted it.

---Why did the parent “permit” it?

---Because they couldn’t do anything else.

---Similarly, God made man a free moral agent and He cannot do anything else as well.

----If man chooses to do wrong, he’ll have to reap the penalty.

-Is sickness a blessing or a curse?

--If it is a blessing, we should not want to get rid of it!

--If sickness is a blessing, then we ought to invite sickness to come.

--When we hear that a flu epidemic is coming, we ought to say, “well, I’ve got to get ready for the blessing now.”

---“Send that flu blessing over here to me.”

--Many will go to the doctor to get a shot, to keep the blessing off of them.

---If sickness is a blessing, you should not go to the doctor for the shot.

--Sickness is not a blessing…the Bible said it’s a curse.

-A man had three statues of monkeys on his desk.

--On one it said, “I was poor.”

--The second one said, “I was rich.”

--The third one said, “rich is better.”

    ---even the monkey knows that!

  -Let’s go one step further.

--“I was sick…I am well…and well is better!

--Kenneth E. Hagin was sick for the 1st 17 years…and was been well over the next 60 years…and he says well is better.

Health is a blessing…sickness and disease is a curse.

  -Dis-ease is broken ease.

-Sickness makes slaves of the family and those who have to care for them.

-Sickness and disease are enemies of mankind.

--Sickness is a thief and a robber.

John 10: 10.  "The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.

-A spirit-filled woman was very sick for 19 years and told the pastor “that the Lord put that on her so her husband would be saved.”

--The pastor told her that she was deceived, that Jesus died so he would be saved.

--God did not rob the man of his wife.

--He is more likely to get saved if God heals her…and he did.

Sickness and disease are not the will of God for His people.

-Some people will agree that God was Isreal’s healer alright.

--They can believe it was so under the “Old Covenant…but we aren’t under the Old covenant.”

--That is true, we aren’t under the Old covenant!

-Now, if the Old Covenant provided healing and health…

--And if the Old Covenant provided the possibility of the people not even being sick…

---And the New Covenant doesn’t…

--Then we have to question whether the New Covenant is as good as the Old.

-The Bible says that the New Covenant is BETTER.

Heb 8: 6.  But now He has obtained a more excellent ministry, inasmuch as He is also Mediator of a better covenant, which was established on better promises.

-Do we know any Christian parents that want their children to be sick or to stay sick?

--Then why do we think that our Heavenly Father wants any of His children to be sick or to stay sick?

If sickness is the will of God, then heaven will be full of sickness and disease.

-The good news is that there will not be any in Heaven.

Sin caused the curse to come on us, but Christ bore the penalty for us.

Isa 53: 4.  Surely He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed Him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted.
 5.  But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed.

-The Hebrew word for “grief” is often translated “sickness” and the word “sorrows” is translated “disease.

-“iniquities”-Strong’s refers to moral evil and perversity.

Matt 8: 17.  that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying: "He Himself took our infirmities and bore our sicknesses.''

--For our transgressions, and our iniquities.

    --For our peace…

    --and WE are healed.

God is a Faith God

The “Why” of faith.

Heb 11:3  By faith we understand that the ages were framed by a word of God, so that the things being seen not to have come into being out of the things that appear. [MKJV]

Heb 11:3  By faith, we see the world called into existence by God's word, what we see created by what we don't see. [MB]

Heb 11:3  By faith, we understand that the universe has been framed by the word of God, so that what is seen has not been made out of things which are visible.[WEB]

God created by the Word of faith.

-He said, “Let there be.”…He created with words.

-He knew the power of words.

--He healed the sick with words.

--He raised the dead with words.

--He stilled the sea with , “Peace be still.”

-Peter healed the sick by using the Name of Jesus.

-Paul cast out demons by saying, “In the name of Jesus Christ, come out.”

-We become the sons of God, partakers of His very nature, by ACTING ON WORDS.

The reason for a persons unbelief is that they do not know what and who they are in Christ.

-The more Revelation Knowledge one gets the greater their faith increases.

--Their increased faith overcomes their unbelief.

The Living Word

The problem of healing is a problem of the integrity of the Word.

-Many have never recognized it, but the Word is the healer today.

Psa 107:19  Then they cry to Jehovah in their distress, and He saves them out of their troubles.
Psa 107:20  He sent His Word and heals them, and delivers them from their pitfalls.

He had sent His spoken Word through the prophets.

-But the Living Word was made flesh.

Behind the Word is the INTEGRITY OF GOD!

We now have a better covenant :

-Heb 8:6  But now He has obtained a more excellent ministry, by so much He is also the Mediator of a better covenant, which was built upon better promises.

Faith, Hope, and Mental Assent

There is a major difference between Believing and Mental Assent:

-Believing the Word is acting on the Word.

-Mental Assent is acknowledging the truthfulness of the Word, but not acting on it.

--Mental Assent is standing outside the bakery and coveting the cake in the window.

 Hope is not faith:

-Hope is always living in the future.

  -Faith is always now.

The fruit of the indwelling Word:

John 15:7  If you abide in Me, and My Words abide in you, you shall ask what you will, and it shall be done to you.
John 15:8  In this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit, so you shall be My disciples.

There are Two Views of Healing

The most common view is that healing is not in the Redemptive work of Christ but belongs to us if we have faith enough to claim it.

-This belief holds that faith is a gift from God.

-If God gives you faith for healing, you will be healed.

-This is the result of Sense Knowledge.

The second view of healing is that it is part of the plan of Redemption.

-That disease came with the Fall, and that sickness is the work of the adversary.

Sin and sickness come from the same source.

1Pe 2:24  who his own self bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live to righteousness; by whose stripes you were healed.

We should be as free from the fear of sickness as we are free from the condemnation of sin.

The Word is like God—eternal, never changing.

-And the Word says you were healed.
   --The pain may be there.

--The soreness may be in evidence.

-But these are only the testimony of the Senses.

Healing for the World

Most of the healings that were performed by the apostles and the early church were among those who had not yet become Christians.

-They were heathens or they were Jews.

E.W. Kenyon say that healing was God’s way of advertising.

-God’s method of revealing Himself to the natural mind.

Holding fast to one’s confession when the senses contradict—shows that one has become established in the Word.

-Your acknowledgement of the disease is like signing for a package that the express company has left you.

-Satan then has the receipt for your disease.  You have accepted it.

“These Signs”

John 14:12  Truly, truly, I say to you, He who believes on Me, the works that I do he shall do also, and greater works than these he shall do, because I go to My Father.
John 14:13  And whatever you may ask in My name, that I will do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
John 14:14  If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.

He is not talking about prayer.

--He is talking about casting out demons, about healing the sick, and miracles.

Healing for the Carnally Minded Christian

 Carnal means Sense-ruled.

-The carnally minded Christian is one who has not yet come to a place where the Word rules him and governs his thinking.

-He is a boy-ruled, sense-governed child of God.

-He is a babe in Christ.

1Co 3:1  Brothers, I couldn't speak to you as to spiritual, but as to fleshly, as to babies in Christ.
1Co 3:2  I fed you with milk, not with meat; for you weren't yet ready. Indeed, not even now are you ready,
1Co 3:3  for you are still fleshly. For insofar as there is jealousy, strife, and factions among you, aren't you fleshly, and don't you walk in the ways of men?

1Co 3:1  But for right now, friends, I'm completely frustrated by your unspiritual dealings with each other and with God. You're acting like infants in relation to Christ,
1Co 3:2  capable of nothing much more than nursing at the breast. Well, then, I'll nurse you since you don't seem capable of anything more.
1Co 3:3  As long as you grab for what makes you feel good or makes you look important, are you really much different than a babe at the breast, content only when everything's going your way?

It’s hard to explain the Word.

Heb 5:11  I have a lot more to say about this, but it is hard to get it across to you since you've picked up this bad habit of not listening.
Heb 5:12  By this time you ought to be teachers yourselves, yet here I find you need someone to sit down with you and go over the basics on God again, starting from square one--baby's milk, when you should have been on solid food long ago!
Heb 5:13  Milk is for beginners, inexperienced in God's ways;
Heb 5:14  solid food is for the mature, who have some practice in telling right from wrong.
Heb 5:13  Milk is for beginners, inexperienced in God's ways;
Heb 5:14  solid food is for the mature, who have some practice in telling right from wrong.

RIGHTEOUSNESS means the ability to stand in the presence of the Father, or demons, or of sickness and disease.

-It means to do so without the sense of inferiority, condemnation, or of sin-consciousness.

James 5:14-16 is God’s method of healing the carnally minded, or babes in Christ.

Jam 5:14  Is any sick among you? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord.
Jam 5:15  And the prayer of faith will cure the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up. And if he has committed sins, it will be forgiven him.
Jam 5:16  Confess faults to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous one avails much.

Notice these facts about the baby Christian:

-He cannot see that his disease was laid on Christ.

--But he can see the elders.

  --He can hear their prayers.

--He can feel the anointing oil on his forehead.

--And he can feel their hands on his head.

-He is living in the realm of the senses.

--Grace comes down and meets him in this realm.

-He has to feel and see before he can believe.

-He belongs to the “doubting Thomas” class, “When I see, I believe”.

Practically all the faith that men had in Jesus before His death and Resurrection was Sense Knowledge.

Sickness is Spiritual

-As long as we think that disease is purely physical, we will not get our deliverance.
